"Bringing Australians closer to their heroes"
As a principal sponsor of the 2008 Beijing Olympic games, Telstra appointed WeAreDigital to build two websites that would form the centerpiece if an integrated marketing campaign to help them leverage their sponsorship of the games.
Having previously adopted and enhanced the Hero Message platform for the Fina World Swimming Championships, Telstra asked us to make significant enhancements to the platform to improve the customer experience and help celebrate 20 years of Hero Message for the Olympics. As a result and in addition to the SMS, Picture and Video MMS channels, we developed a mobile site, facebook application and User Generated Webcam recording component to give the fans a choice to send their messages of support to the athletes.
For the first time also, the messages from the campaign were exposed and displayed for others to view and share, whilst a syndicated feed of messages was made available for the media to use, display and promote the hero message content via their own vehicles.
A custom built Content Management System was also developed to enable content to be moderated and for athletes to login from the games to respond to their fans directly.
Following on from FINA Swimming World Championships and the 2008 Olympics, WeAreDigital have also rolled out the hero message platform for the Paralympics and ANZAC day.
